How Do I Send God A Friend Request?
Becoming a Christian is as easy as Facebook, all you have to do is sign-up and log-in.
The first thing you’ll notice is that you already have a friend request pending, and it’s from God Himself. That’s right, you don’t have to send a friend request to God, because He already sent it to you.
So what happens next? That’s where you come in. God sent you the friend request, you can accept it and just never think about it again. We all do that with some people, right? Then we only see or hear about them if their posts happen to end up in our feed.
But there is another option, and I think it’s a better choice. Once you accept God’s friend request you should send Him a message. It might seem silly, you might not feel comfortable being the first person to talk, but all you have to do is send Him a short message. Maybe you talk to Him about the weather, your work, the reason you became a Christian, or possibly you ask Him some questions about what He has been doing today. It doesn’t have to be long, it doesn’t have to be too personal, it doesn’t even have to seem important. Just send him the message and you have started down the path of friendship.
This is less awkward when you first accept His friend request, but I’ll let you in on a little secret. God is just as happy to get a message from people that friended Him years ago as He is when He gets a message from people that friended Him today.
The Bible says,
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer.” 1st Peter 3:12a
So we know that he will get our message. It also says,
“And This is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will he hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.” 1st John 1:14-15
So not only does he get our message, we know that He will respond to it too!
It seems easy because it is easy, just send Him a message, just say ‘hi’ to Him. You can speak it out loud and He will hear you, you can write it down and He will get the letter, you can even type it up on your computer and He will get the message as if it were literally a Facebook message.
But we have to be careful to stay in touch with Him. Sometimes life can get busy and we can forget to talk to God, but we still find time to grab coffee with our friends.
Personally, I would encourage you to get coffee with God. You can do it at home in the morning, just talk to Him while you drink your coffee, or you can go out to the local cafe and just talk to Him while you are there.
God sent you a friend request, are you going to accept it?
