Can I live without fear?
What would you think if I told you that you could live without fear? Yes, even in these moments of intense insecurity and what seems like death on every side, you can live without fear.
Would you believe me if I said that despite what you saw on the news tonight, you could be perfectly calm and at peace? You see, fear doesn’t have to be our reaction. We don’t have to deny the circumstances and reports, but we can live above them. Our faith in God is a force that cannot be overcome.
In Matthew 14, Jesus invited Peter to come to Him on the water. “But when he [Peter] saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me” (verse 30).
What enabled Peter to walk on the water? His faith in the Words of Jesus. What caused Peter to sink? He saw the wind was afraid. It wasn’t the wind that defeated him, the winds were the same the moment he took those first successful steps out of the boat. What made Peter sink was his fear. He looked at his circumstances, gave in to the fear, and the result was defeat. All Peter had to do was keep his focus on Jesus.
When we stay close to Him, the craziness of the storms within the world can’t cause us to fall. His Grace and Love for us will cause us to overcome. Even if we feel like we’re sinking, He is there to reach out and rescue us, every time.
Feel like your faith is small right now? Don’t beat yourself up – our faith grows by reading the Bible and hearing His Words (Romans 10:17). Instead of filling yourself with the fear the media is throwing at us, take a couple minutes and read the promises of protection and provision found in the Bible. Speak those promises over yourself and your loved ones and let the peace of God flood your mind. His Word never fails. It is the Rock we can stand on and we will not be shaken.
